As an artist, one of my goals is to keep an almost childlike connection to my work, and to use it as an escape from reality. This mindset is why I have chosen to create dolls. Dolls are given to children as reflections of themselves, and play a role in forming their self image.  The dolls that I make take that reflection and use it to encourage creativity and imagination.  I have always been drawn to bright colors and busy patterns. I consider myself a maximalist in terms of style, and like to fill my work with detail. I use materials that are familiar and relatively commonplace. This allows them to feel relatable and more approachable to a young audience, and nostalgic to an older audience.

As an educator I often find myself focused on the therapeutic and social benefits of art.  Much of my teaching experience has been with disabled and emotional support students, and I see art as an important outlet for them. My mission is to guide students in finding a way to safely and effectively express themselves. 

My background is primarily in acrylic painting, but in recent years my work and students have lead me to have a strong interest in incorporating handcrafts like sewing and embroidery into art lessons.
